Our short film, "A Night at the Zoo" premiered last evening to a full house as part of the Little Rock Film Festival's Shorts Program #4. We closed out the 90min. program of edgy and brilliant shorts from all over the globe, as selected by LRFF Shorts Programmer, Jacob LeMaster. We had a great time meeting the audience and answering their questions in the follow-up session moderated by our new pal, Jacob. Those in attendance last evening, really seemed to get where we were coming from in trying to tell a story that may not be easily palatable for all audiences. Another friend, actor and filmmaker, Ray McKinnon, was in attendance as well last night, and was very generous in sharing his observations and insights.
Ray also has a film that opened the festival, and won the Golden Rock award for Best Narrative, last evening. Its an excellent film called, "That Evening Sun" starring Hal Holbrook, Ray and Walton Goggins, and was directed by Scott Teems and produced by Ray and Walton. They're a great group of guys who made a film that tells a story with real characters - people we all know - and needs to be seen by audiences of all generations. The story is well crafted by Scott, and has a lot of heart and soul in it.
This experience at the festival has exceeded our expectations and been very educational for us. I do have to note that the people of Little Rock have been so warm and accommodating - from those involved with the festival to the folks at the hotels and surrounding restaurants and cafes. Which reminds me to point out that if you're ever in Little Rock, be sure to pay a visit to a little Brazilian cafe called, Cafe Bossa Nova. The proprietors are so friendly and inviting, and the food is beyond phenomenal. My wife and I love all forms of Latin food, and this Brazilian-style home-cooking was amongst the best we've had.
We still have another screening later this afternoon, so we'll see how that one plays to a Saturday matinee audience. Will post more soon...
